A Small History About this Charming Town
According to the tale, the Britishers gave Chail to Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala in exchange for his support during the Anglo-Nepalese War. The Maharaja was romantically involved with the daughter of Lord Henry Kitchener, the British army’s commander-in-chief at the time. The Maharaja was then barred from entering India’s summer capital, Shimla.
The Maharaja decided to give Britishers a proper response and build his own summer resort from which to gaze down on Shimla. His hunt ends at Chail – a little village that neatly overlooks all of the surrounding hills. As a result, the Chail Palace was established.
The structure is an excellent example of old stone construction, with Indo-British interior design. Polished wood parquet flooring, separate apartments for the king, queen, and mistresses, and a garden with walkways.
